{"id":551,"date":"2018-02-01T12:15:34","date_gmt":"2018-02-01T17:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mutualgaze.com\/blog\/?p=551"},"modified":"2018-02-09T23:44:11","modified_gmt":"2018-02-10T04:44:11","slug":"equality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mutualgaze.com\/blog\/2018\/02\/01\/equality\/","title":{"rendered":"Equality?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Equality is a great idea unless it means we should all be equal white people.<\/p>\n<p>Nowhere in the culture do I see white people expressing a desire to be persons of color. That said, I do see a growing awareness that people of color are not just victims of white people with whom we need to empathize, \u00a0We&#8217;re evolving, to be sure; it&#8217;s no longer legally possible to enslave, torture, appropriate other people to do the bidding of white people&#8230;except perhaps in the way that white people make celebrities out of \u00a0black people for entertainment. I experience <span class=\"hiddenSpellError wpgc-spelling\" style=\"background: inherit;\"><span class=\"hiddenSpellError wpgc-spelling\" style=\"background: inherit;\">Beyonce<\/span><\/span> not as a white person in black face, but more as a \u00a0black person in whiteface (an imitation of her heritage for consumption by others.)<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve evolved to the point &#8211; with the help of affirmative action, guilt, fury, activism, <span class=\"hiddenSpellError wpgc-spelling\" style=\"background: inherit;\"><span class=\"hiddenSpellError wpgc-spelling\" style=\"background: inherit;\">pressure<\/span><\/span> &#8211; \u00a0of integrating people of color into elitist institutions.
